Ambition and Purpose

I still remember from the high school , when "Aim or Ambition of my life" was popular and fascinating topic for essay writing. The essay writing was mostly a copy paste stuff those days but it did invoke a thought process about what ambitions one could have or should have in ones life. These instances and many more encourage us to think about , choose and pursue various ambitions aims, goals in our life.Which is essential to our growth and having a direction to move forward.

However when it comes to purpose , its a less discussed term so far. Probably because it feels like, its not something one is gaining ,looks more like your are giving something. Why should one spend thought and energy about giving rather than gaining . But purpose in-fact is a more profound concept than ambition , which one should understand and think about.

People often tend to follow ambitions and goals .Being passionate about any goal or milestone gives your the energy to put you best effort. Most of people are ambitious about something or other .Many times ambitions are not really ours they are just trends that we follow. World becomes a big racecourse and we run , we achieve or we don't, we run again and we run faster. And the race goes on and nothing is wrong with it so far. The world cheers the fast runners the achievers and the one who have overcome obstacles. The acclaim gives one a feeling of achievement and satisfaction and a sense of happiness.

Successes can be addictive and failure can be discouraging . Both in their own ways can lead to exhaustion ,being tired mentally and a lack of understanding of self worthiness. This disorientation ,however, doesn't actually come from success or failures but it comes because of a disconnection from a purpose. A disconnection or unawareness of a purpose can make feel both success and failure a worthless result of a worthless action. A Purpose is like a life force behind an ambition. If Ambition is the sky then you can say purpose is the ground. Being connected to both is the key to peace of mind. You loose the ground and you will be just floating around.

Not being exhausted is not the purpose of having a purpose ,it just comes free. Real reason for having a purpose in your life or in your action or day to day job is to achieve a sense of self satisfaction. Once a person attaches a purpose to an action the mere act of doing the action becomes satisfactory . Success becomes charming rather then addictive and failure tends to become a lesson rather than a sole point of discouragement.
Too complicated? Lets Simplify.

Be ambitious. Follow your plans, goals and achieve stuff. But with that find out purposes , how you are or you can contribute to life of people around you, your country, humanity, science. Find out how, you being here adds value to something. If you don't find many, pick up something new. This value or something need not always be huge like world peace. My purpose can be anything, to secure a building as a guard, to build wise and knowledgeable next generation as a teacher, to keep clean surroundings as a human, to bring up children well as parent and many more. Whatever the magnitude of your purpose is just stay aware of your purposes and small steps will give you small shots of satisfaction that will keep you oriented and enthusiastic. When you are serving a purpose by default you will be putting your best and than irrespective for results of your actions you will steadily keep moving forward.

A Purpose only can generate true Ambition which is satisfying and unrelenting. All of us are implicitly driven by some purpose but its best to be aware of that and to chose more as you should wish. People have found purpose after living ambitious lives but the ones who found purpose first and ambition later on, lived more satisfied and happily.

So "Find a purpose and be ambitious about it" .

Small instances can trigger thoughts. I really wish that parents, mentors and friends  and a person himself should start asking question about "Finding purpose" rather than just "Finding ambition".
Perhaps write an essay about it.
